The City of San Diego (City) owns and operates and maintains a fleet of approximately 4,900 vehicles consisting of motorcycles, scooters, all-terrain vehicles, sedans, law enforcement patrol vehicles, light trucks/vans, medium/heavy trucks, fire apparatus, refuse collection vehicles, street sweepers, trailers, tractors, industrial equipment, and other types of equipment. These vehicles and equipment support all City services, are assigned to several departments and primarily operate within City and County of San Diego limits. The City of San Diego vehicles and equipment are maintained by the City's Department of General Services, Fleet Operations Division.
One of the specific activities of the City's Department of Environmental Services is the door-to-door collection of refuse and disposal at various landfill sites. Currently, there are approximately 200 refuse collection trucks that are stored, dispatched, and maintained at the Environmental Service's facility located at 8323 Miramar Place in the City of San Diego. These refuse collection trucks normally operate 5 days per week (Monday - Friday) and approximately 6 (six) Saturdays per year when a City holiday occurs during a normal collection week and 4 (four) additional holidays during the normal work week where no Saturday is associated. During normal collection schedules refuse trucks operate within a given geographical area each day rather than covering large sections of the City randomly. The intent of this solicitation is to establish a qualified Contractor to provide comprehensive tire maintenance services for the City's refuse collection trucks, this will NOT include road call services. All services are to be provided on-site at 8323 Miramar Place, San Diego CA 92121 during the hours after 3:30pm and must be completed by 5:00am the following day.
